What is Deep Ocean Mission and what is its importance?
Deep Ocean Mission is an ambitious program launched by the Government of India in 2021. The objective of this program is to enhance our understanding of the ocean through manned and unmanned deep sea expeditions.
Work to be done under Deep Ocean Mission
1.Development and testing of a manned submarine, Matsya 6000. This submarine will be able to go to a depth of 6,000 meters.
2.Development and testing of an unmanned submarine, Matsya 3000. This submarine will be able to go to a depth of 3,000 meters.
3. Study of deep sea creatures and mineral resources.
4. Study of natural phenomena occurring in the deep sea.
What are the benefits of Deep Ocean Mission?
1. Our understanding of the ocean will increase.
2.The resources present in the deep sea can be explored.
3. Information will be received about natural phenomena occurring in the deep sea.
4. New methods can be developed for adaptation and conservation of the ocean.
Matsya 6000 submarine has been developed under the Deep Ocean Mission and is undergoing testing. Development of Matsya 3000 submarine is also underway. The first manned mission of the Matsya 6000 submarine is expected to be carried out in 2024.
In conclusion we can say that this mission is an important achievement for India. This will establish India as a major player in deep sea research.
