Digital arrest is a type of cybercrime where fraudsters impersonate government officials or law enforcement agencies and threaten victims with arrest unless they comply with demands for money or personal information.They may claim that the victim is involved in illegal activities, such as money laundering or drug trafficking, and that they are under investigation. The fraudsters may also threaten to seize the victim’s assets or even arrest them if they do not cooperate.

It is important to be aware of the signs and take precautions.

 If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a government official or law enforcement officer, do not panic. Stay calm and do not provide any personal information or financial details.

Ask the caller for their name, badge number, and agency. Then, hang up and call the agency directly to verify the information.

Fraudsters may try to pressure you into a video call to intimidate you. Do not agree to these calls.

 If you believe you are being targeted by a digital arrest scam, report it to the police or your local cybercrime unit.
