My dear aspiring officers, students are often confused about what is mandatory to be done during the VANI exam and what is a must in any case. If you keep these aspects in mind then your chances of getting good marks during the personality test become almost certain. Here I am discussing some do’s and don’ts.
Do’s
- Get proper sleep the night before the personality test.
- Wear clothes according to the dignity of the occasion.
- Your clothes should be ironed and of formal style.
- Shoes should be polished and their bottom should be soft. • You should be well aware of the exact time of the personality test.
- You should have correct information about the time taken to reach the personality test center in advance.
- Reach the Union Public Service Commission office half an hour before time.
- Read that day’s newspaper.
- Take full care of your health.
During personality test
- Greet the board members politely.
- First of all, greet the Speaker and if there is a woman member, greet her first.
- Show politeness and decency/civility while greeting the board.
- Take up space only when you are asked to do so.
- Sit firmly and patiently on the chair, do not show impatience.
- Be confident and stress free during the personality test.
- Listen carefully.
- When talking to you, sometimes keep nodding your head in a yes posture.
- Keep a sweet smile on your face.
- Understand the question thoroughly before answering.
- Complete your answer with appropriate examples.
- Be impartial towards values and gender.
- Be as compassionate as possible in your answers.
- The language of your body language should be natural and in line with your words.
- Pay attention to the expressions of the board.
- Take time to think before answering, there is no need to rush.
- Your voice can be heard and is clear.
- Always be objective and impartial.
- The answer should be error free and concise.
- Your explanation should be logical and sensible.
- In case of disagreement, learn to appreciate and accept the opinion of others.
- Provide practical solutions to the problem.
- Keep clarity in thoughts and expression.
- Your ideas should be new and unique. Do not use figurative language while answering.
- Maintain patience and discretion during the pause between questions.
- Maintain your integrity while answering.
- Have confidence in your abilities.
- Be honest.
- Your answers should always be balanced, logical and rational and they should be in accordance with the constitutional and legal structure of the country.
- Try to support your answers with examples, facts and illustrations.
- Maintain calmness and patience even on provocative/provoking questions.
- Leave your chair only when you are asked to do so.
- Before leaving, thank the board.
Don’t do this
- Do not stay up late the night before the personality test.
- Do not overeat or remain on an empty stomach before the personality test.
- Do not delay in reaching the personality test.
- Do not smoke before the personality test.
- Do not get angry over anything before the personality test. This mood of yours can extend to the interview room.
During personality test
- Do not forget to knock the door before entering the room.
- Do not sit on the chair unless you are asked to.
- Do not put your hands in your pockets and do not fold your arms on your chest.
- Do not sit with your legs crossed.
- Do not make any unnecessary physical movements or make physical postures.
- Do not try to use any kind of punch and do not move here and there.
- The introduction of the answer should not be long.
- Do not carry mobile phone in the interview room.
- Controversial phrases like “you know”, of course or off course, obviously, I mean, according to me or according Do not use “According to me” etc.
- Avoid any kind of debate.
- Don’t be subjective. If you have to give such an example somewhere, be careful and alert.
- Simple things easily slip from the mind. Often we forget the important topic while speaking unnecessary. Don’t let this happen.
- Do not lie and do not try to deceive the board.
- Do not attempt to take board exams.
- Do not use technical terminology while answering when the question is in a simple scenario.
- Don’t make excuses. Be responsible for your decisions and actions.
Don’t insult the board.
- Do not forget to show humility in your conduct when receiving praise for any answer, qualification or achievement.
- Do not go unprepared for the questions that are always considered ideal for an interview because even though the chances of being asked are less, if you still get stuck on them.
