- Highest ever coal production in 2022-23
Source : PIB
India witnessed the highest ever coal production in 2022-23. The all-India coal production in 2022-23 was 893.19 Million Tonne (MT) (Provisional) in comparison to 778.21 MT in the year 2021-22 with a growth of about 14.77%.
The growth in coal production was driven by a number of factors, including:
* The increase in demand for coal from the power sector, as the country’s economy grew.
* The government’s efforts to boost coal production, such as the introduction of the Coal Mine Auction Policy in 2015.
* The availability of new coal mines, such as the Singrauli-II and III coal blocks in Madhya Pradesh.
The high coal production in 2022-23 helped to ensure that the country’s power plants had adequate coal stocks, which helped to prevent power outages. It also helped to boost the Indian economy, as coal is a major source of energy for the country.
The following are the top 5 states in India with the highest coal production in 2022-23:
1. Jharkhand: 298.88 MT
2. Chhattisgarh: 257.13 MT
3. Odisha: 156.31 MT
4. West Bengal: 111.57 MT
5. Madhya Pradesh: 104.20 MT
These states account for more than 80% of the total coal production in India.
