ISRO launches 7 Singaporean satellites

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched seven Singaporean satellites from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The satellites were launched on board the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) C56.

The satellites launched were:

  • DS-SAR, a radar imaging earth observation satellite for the Singapore Ministry of Defence.
  • STSAT-2D, a weather observation satellite for the Singapore Space and Technology Agency.
  • SCOOB-1, a CubeSat satellite for the National University of Singapore.
  • VELOX-I, a CubeSat satellite for the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
  • TRITON-1, a CubeSat satellite for the Singapore Institute of Technology.
  • Umbra-2, a CubeSat satellite for the Singapore University of Technology and Design.
  • SMETSat-1, a CubeSat satellite for the Singapore Maritime and Port Authority.

The launch of the seven Singaporean satellites was a major milestone for ISRO and for Singapore’s space program. It was the first time that ISRO had launched so many satellites for a single customer. The launch also demonstrated ISRO’s ability to launch small satellites, which is a growing market.

The satellites launched on PSLV-C56 will be used for a variety of purposes, including earth observation, weather forecasting, and maritime surveillance. They will help to improve Singapore’s understanding of its environment and its ability to respond to natural disasters. The satellites will also be used to develop new technologies for space applications.

The launch of the seven Singaporean satellites is a testament to the strong partnership between ISRO and Singapore. It is a sign of the growing cooperation between India and Singapore in the field of space technology.
