Kargil Vijay Diwas is a day of national pride in India. It is celebrated on 26 July every year to mark the victory of the Indian Armed Forces over the Pakistani Army in the Kargil War of 1999. The war was fought in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir, which is located on the Line of Control between India and Pakistan. The Pakistani Army had infiltrated into Indian territory and occupied strategic heights. The Indian Army launched a counter-offensive and successfully evicted the Pakistani forces from Indian territory.

The Kargil War was a difficult and costly war for India. The Indian Army lost over 500 soldiers in the war. However, the war was a victory for India and it showed the world that India is a strong and capable nation. The Kargil War also brought the Indian people together and it strengthened the spirit of national pride.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed with various events and ceremonies across the country. The day is marked by paying tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty and celebrating the success of the Indian forces in recapturing the strategic positions that had been occupied by Pakistani intruders.
