PM SHRI Scheme
In News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today released the first installment of 630 crore rupees under the PM ScHools For Rising India- PM SHRI Scheme for 6,207 schools.
PM ScHools For Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme:
- The PM SHRI scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme launched in 2022. It aims to develop more than 14,500 schools across India by strengthening selected existing schools being managed by Central government/State/UT Government/local bodies.
- The scheme will focus on providing high-quality education in an equitable, inclusive, and joyful school environment.
- The schools under the PM SHRI scheme will be developed as “Green Schools”, incorporating environment-friendly aspects.
- The scheme will also provide for teacher training, curriculum development, and infrastructure improvement.
- The total project cost of the PM SHRI scheme is Rs. 27,360 crore, of which the central government’s share is Rs. 18,128 crore.
- The scheme is being implemented over a period of five years, from 2022-23 to 2026-27.
