What is UNESCO Creative Cities Network?

The UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) is a global initiative that recognizes cities with exceptional talent and potential in seven creative sectors.The UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) is a global network of cities that are committed to using culture and creativity as drivers for sustainable urban development. The network was launched in 2004 and currently includes over 300 cities in over 100 countries.

Recognizes cities with exceptional talent and potential in seven creative sectors.

These areas are:

art and craft

Folk Arts and Handicrafts

Design

Movie

gastronomy

Literature

music

UNESCO Creative Cities Network Objectives

The aim is to help these cities enhance their creative potential and develop their creative economies. The network’s member cities share experiences and resources, and work together to promote creativity as a driving force for the development of cities.

How many cities of India have been included?

So far eight cities of India have been included in such networks. These include – Jaipur, Hyderabad, Chennai, Varanasi, Gwalior, Kozhikode etc. By 2023, 300 Sharons have been included in this network.

UNESCO Creative Cities Network

These cities are known for their rich cultural heritage and vibrant creative communities. Being a member of the UCCN network provides them a platform to showcase their creativity to the world and connect with the global creative community.

UCCN Network is playing an important role in the development of creative industries in India. This network is helping to create a supportive environment for creative industries and empowering creative entrepreneurs. This is creating employment opportunities in the country and boosting the economy.

The UCCN network is also enriching the cultural landscape of India. This network is promoting traditional arts and crafts and helping in bringing out new creative talents. This is helping in preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the country.
