1. National Manufacturing Innovation Survey: Karnataka ranked most ‘innovative’ state

A few days ago, the Department of Science and Technology and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization jointly released the data of the National Manufacturing Innovation Survey (NMIS) 2021-22. Karnataka has been ranked the best in this.

According to this survey, Karnataka is the most “innovative” state, followed by Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu (DNH&DD), Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have the highest share of innovative firms respectively. Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand reported the lowest share of such firms, respectively.

The first National Innovation Survey was released in the year 2011. The objective of this survey is to evaluate the innovation performance of Indian manufacturing firms.

The survey also found that the most common “barriers to innovation” are lack of internal funding, high innovation costs and lack of funding from external sources.

What is the importance of survey?

This will give a fillip to the Make-in-India programme, especially related to manufacturing.

Survey will also encourage manufacturing in various sectors including electronics, pharmaceuticals and automobiles

This will increase positive competition in the country.

The income of the states will increase.

2. What is Manipur dispute?

In Nagaland, violence broke out during a protest called ‘Adivasi Ekta March’ called by students’ organization ‘All Tribal Students Union of Manipur’ to protest their demand for inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category.

Why is there protest in Manipur?

The population of the Meitei community in Manipur is about 60 percent. The Meitei community lives in the Imphal Valley and its surrounding areas. The community has been saying that they are facing problems due to illegal infiltrators from Myanmar and Bangladesh in the state.

Under the current law, they are not allowed to settle in the hilly areas of the state. For this reason, the Meitei community filed a petition in the High Court demanding their inclusion in the tribal category.

The High Court gave its verdict. It said that the government should consider including the Meitei community in the tribal category. Along with this, the High Court gave four weeks time to the state government for this. Violence is taking place in Manipur in protest against this decision.

Why are tribes protesting the verdict in Manipur?

Tribal organizations say, “If the Meitei community is included in the tribal category, they will take over their land and resources.” They also say that another argument given in opposition is that population and political representation Meitei is dominating in both of them, due to which they will face trouble in future.

Is this the only reason for violence?

There are other reasons as geographically, the state is divided into two regions, the hills and the plains. According to the 2011 census, the population of Manipur is 28,55,794. Of this, 57.2 per cent live in the valley districts and the remaining 42.8 per cent in the hill districts. The plains are mainly inhabited by Meitei speaking population. At the same time, tribes like Naga, Kuki mainly reside in the hills. The recognized tribes of Manipur have also been demanding protection up to these hilly areas and a ban on the purchase of land there. This adds to the resistance.

3. NGT has imposed a fine of four thousand crores on Bihar government.

The NGT has imposed an environmental fine of 4 thousand crores on the Bihar government. The NGT said the amount of the fine would be used for setting up solid waste processing facilities, disposal of old waste and setting up sewage treatment plants.

Why was the fine imposed

NGT says that this fine has been imposed due to non-management of solid and wet waste by the Bihar government. NGT said that the other option is to make compost from wet waste, even then the government did not take any step. The NGT also said that this amount would be used to build a sewage treatment plant.

Can NGT impose such penalty anytime?

Yes can be assumed because NGT has got the power of justice. It is a tribunal and the tribunal enjoys the same powers that a court has. The jurisdiction of NGT is the whole of India.

What is NGT?

Every country has environmental problems. The level of pollution in India has increased a lot, for its prevention, the need for such an organization was felt, which can take decisions regarding the subjects related to the environment. That is why NGT was established. The full form of NGT is National Green Authority.

The NGT was established in 2010 under an Act of Parliament. Its headquarter is New Delhi. It has got the same powers as the court. The whole of India comes under its jurisdiction.

Objectives of NGT

The objective of the NGT is to provide speedy adjudication in matters relating to the environment in India. Its main objective is to reduce the burden of cases on the judiciary of India. Against the decision given by NGT, a petition can be filed in the Supreme Court within 90 days.

4.Corona is no longer a global disease: World Health Organization

Now the World Health Organization has removed the Kovid-19 pandemic from the status of a global emergency. The UN health agency said the virus disease and its spread no longer qualified as a global emergency. After this decision of the World Health Organisation, the devastating corona virus will no longer be considered a global pandemic. We all know that this infection had forced countries around the world to shut down, which had a serious impact on the economy and people’s lives.

Corona spread all over the world from 2019 and there were about 2 crore deaths in the whole world. Today the world is grappling with the problems created by Corona. The World Health Organization has advised that now we should pay attention to other diseases as well.

5. What is Moka?

The first storm of this year is about to hit India. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has given a signal regarding this. It can also be like the cyclonic storm ‘Asani’ in 2022.

What can be the effect?

Hurricane Moka can have many negative effects. Like strong wind, heavy rain, flood, weather change, destruction of biodiversity, loss of life and property.

Why do storms come ?

The main reason for strong wind blowing at a place is the change in temperature and air pressure. After March 21, Surya Uttarayan means the Sun crosses the equator and comes towards India in the Northern Hemisphere. Due to which there is a change in the temperature of sea and land. This is the reason why storms occur in the northern hemisphere in summer.

Why do storms occur only in the Bay of Bengal?

To the west of India is the Arabian Sea and to the east is the Bay of Bengal. Storms occur more in the Bay of Bengal than in the Arabian Sea because there is a high mountain between the Arabian Sea and the coastal boundary of India, the Western Ghats, whereas the middle of the Bay of Bengal and the Indian coastal boundary is not high, due to which storms can easily enter the Bay of Bengal. Let’s do it. Apart from this, position and size are also factors.

6. Feeding pigeons can be fatal.

What is the matter?

It has recently come to the fore that people keep feeding birds in the desire to get merit. But sometimes it can spoil the balance of nature, the same thing has come to the fore regarding pigeons. The forest department and ornithologists are appealing to the people not to feed the pigeons. In Maharashtra, there has been talk of imposing a fine of up to 500 on those who throw grains in Thane Municipal Corporation.

Why is pigeon dangerous?

Pigeon beet is harmful to human lungs. A bacteria called Climadaea citicae has been found in pigeon droppings. According to Dr. this bacteria produces psittacosis moist in human lungs. Doctors told that fungus is found in the feathers of pigeons, which causes a disease called histoplasmosis in people, which affects the lungs. Apart from this, it is also fatal for other small birds, it does not allow other birds to eat grains and it does not allow other birds to live in the place where it lives.

What is the belief about pigeons in our country?

People believe that pigeons are a symbol of peace and feeding them is an act of virtue. That’s why people feed them, this is a religious and cultural belief in our society and it is not easy to change.

What should be done?

Strict steps should be taken by the government. The kind of step taken by Thane Nag Ranigam should be implemented in the whole country. Along with this, people should also be made aware of this problem. All the rules will have to be strictly implemented by the administration.
