World Lung Cancer Day

World Lung Cancer Day is an annual event held on August 17 to raise awareness of lung cancer and its prevention, early detection, and treatment. The day was first observed in 2011 by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC).

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for both men and women worldwide. In 2020, an estimated 2.2 million people died from lung cancer. The majority of lung cancer deaths are due to smoking, but exposure to secondhand smoke, radon, and air pollution can also increase the risk of lung cancer.

There are several things that people can do to reduce their risk of lung cancer, including:

  • Quitting smoking
  • Avoiding secondhand smoke
  • Reducing exposure to radon
  • Limiting exposure to air pollution
  • Eating a healthy diet
  • Getting regular exercise

World Lung Cancer Day is an important opportunity to raise awareness of this deadly disease and to encourage people to take steps to reduce their risk. By working together, we can save lives and help to make lung cancer a preventable disease.

World Lung Cancer Day:

  • Wear blue, the color of lung cancer awareness.
  • Donate to a lung cancer research or advocacy organization.
  • Talk to your friends and family about lung cancer.
  • Attend a World Lung Cancer Day event.
  • Share information about lung cancer on social media.
