Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray (2 August 1861 – 16 June 1944) was an Indian chemist, educator, and entrepreneur. He was born in the village of Raruli in the district of Khulna in the British Raj (now in Bangladesh). He studied chemistry at Presidency College, Calcutta, and then went on to earn a PhD in chemistry from the University of Edinburgh in 1888.

After returning to India, Ray joined the faculty of Presidency College, where he taught chemistry for over 40 years. He was also the founder of the Indian Chemical Society and the Indian Institute of Science. Ray was a prolific researcher and published over 100 papers in scientific journals. He is best known for his work on the isolation and characterization of new chemical compounds, including the discovery of mercury(I) nitrate.
