India is caste dominent country . india is a democratic country so no more issue on the basis on caste .The Kurmi community is one of the largest agricultural communities in India. They are found in many different states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh. The Kurmis are traditionally known for their skill in farming, and they play an important role in the Indian economy. The Kurmi community is under other backward class .The Kurmi community is based in india and nepal also.

Why The Kurmi community is in news ?

Reason is The Kurmi community is under OBC now but they  demant to be part of shedule tribe and also they want their kurmali language should be part of 8th shedule of consitution .Kurmali language is under indo- aryan family .

Status of OBC of The Kurmi community is from 1931 cencus .first time they demand in 1950 to be part of ST.In 2004 , jharkhand government recommoned ST status .According tribal research institute government of india rejected their demand .

However, over time, the Kurmis were classified as Shudras, that is, people who were mandated to serve those of the superior Kshatriya and Brahman varnas. This was due to a number of factors, including the rise of Brahmanism and the decline of Buddhism and Jainism, which were more egalitarian religions.

In the early 1900s, the Kurmis began to assert their Kshatriya identity. This was part of a larger movement among peasant castes in India to challenge the traditional caste hierarchy. The Kurmis formed a number of organizations and movements to promote their interests, and they also began to adopt Kshatriya symbols and practices.
